Planning rides and loading the GPX

Plan my rides splits the stops you still need into 1, 2, or 3 rides that start at your chapter's dealer. Open each ride in Google Maps or Apple Maps, or download a GPX file for your bike.

Steps

  1. On Home, tap Plan my rides, or tap Rides in the menu. You don't need to have joined the challenge. A challenge you haven't joined shows Plan my rides beside Join this challenge, and every national challenge has its own Plan my rides button.
  2. Under Split into, pick 1 ride, 2 rides, or 3 rides.
  3. Leave Loop back to start checked to finish where you began. Uncheck it for one-way rides.
  4. Under Miles I'm up for in a day, tap 200, 300, 400, or 500, or type your own number in the box.
  5. The first time, the app asks Which map app do you use? Tap Google Maps or Apple Maps.
  6. On each ride, tap Open in Google Maps or Open in Apple Maps. For your bike, tap GPX file to download it.

Loading the GPX on your bike

Load the GPX file into the H-D App or Ride Planner, or copy it to a USB drive for the Boom! Box. Set Alternate Routes to OFF so the route follows the plan.

Good to know

  • Planning a ride never joins you to a challenge. If you haven't joined, the rides cover every stop in it, since none are done yet.
  • Stops that are approved or waiting for review are left out.
  • Each ride shows its stops, rough miles, and hours. If a ride runs past your daily miles, you'll see a note. Try more rides, or plan an overnight.
  • Google Maps takes 9 stops per link, so a long ride opens in legs. Tap Leg 1, Leg 2, and so on.
  • Apple Maps goes one stop at a time. Tap Apple Maps, one stop at a time to see each leg.
  • Tap any stop name in a ride to open that stop.
  • Your map app and daily miles follow you to any phone or computer. Change them under Riding preferences in your profile.
  • When miles are estimates, the note at the bottom of the page says so.
